scionofwisdom: (ill wait forever for you)

[Zelda doesn't know why she has come up to the upper decks during twilight again. Perhaps, after the things she has endured, being here she somehow misses the Twilight and the confines of her prison. They say one grows comfortable in their surroundings, and once displaced, they feel more vulnerable than before, even if the previous state was one of imprisonment.

Zelda wonders if this is the case for her. She's managed to find her items that had gone missing, it had taken quite a bit of searching, but they had gradually been located on one deck or another. She donned them all now, even the hooded black cloak she had always worn in the chilly confines of her tower in Hyrule castle.

Her thoughts are scattered with the wind, her mind is a cluster of things she cannot understand, things that she does not know if she wants to understand.

She makes an attempt to clear her thoughts; she does not want to feel such conflict within her now. Instead, she wants to enjoy the setting sun that splashes the ocean with bright orange and red hues that flicker across the water.

She shivers, despite the warm breeze the flickers across her face.]

[Zelda held up a hand as if to fend off any the look.]

I did not say that I did not believe you. I said I found it difficult. [Her face hardens, though it isn't for him.]

I know very well that actions bring consequences. [The very worst kind sometimes. Surrendering to Zant had been one of the hardest things she had ever done.]

I have no guardian such as yourself where I come from. [Bodyguards, yes.] Forgive me if I do not completely understand.

[He feels a little sheepish by her response. Erol has Sheik on edge. Big time. So much on edge, that he feels like he could fly into rage. Erol and Meth Rezza. Sheik wants to get rid of both of them. For different reasons. They both have the ability to send him into a state where his demeanor crumbles into nothing.]

Well, you had no guardian where you came from.

[He eyes her closely.] I wish to be your guardian. [Sheik's never been once to mince his words when it's not necessary.]

Had. Yes.

[She returns his close scrutiny. 'Had' no guardian. Meaning she probably wasn't going back. That bothered her more than she would ever let on, though it would probably be easy for him to see.

He seemed to have an uncanny knack for reading her when others never could.

She does not know what to say to that, exactly. She certainly wishes for him to do so (even though she thinks she has no real need here), that much is certainly true.

But she would never want him distracted from
his princess. The conflict flickers across her face, and she glances out to the ocean again. The sun has set, though there is still the faintest glow of daylight that tries feebly to warm her face.]

[She doesn't offer her permission, which doesn't surprise Sheik too much. She's a capable woman, not at all soft like his. Well, soft, of course, but not in the way that he's accustomed to. This doesn't ward him off, however. On the contrary, he's only more intrigued by her, and it's always a good thing to keep his attention.

He knows precisely what he hit upon, although it was never his intention. He's only directly meant that she can have plenty to choose from to place her guardianship into. He catches her gaze as she looks away and he leans against the railing again thoughtfully.]

At times she dislikes the extent to which I concern over her. I am also not the only person looking after her. She has her own... That is...

[He doesn't know how he wants to say that. He did give his permission, however. He might as well call it what he sees it as.]

She has her suitor to look after her.

Suitor? [This surprised Zelda, though it really should not have. The boat is big, there are many passengers, and it would be only natural for there to be someone that would be attracted to the princess.

Zelda does not, however, expect anyone to do such with her. If they were to try, they would quickly be rebuffed.

Except...she isn't quite sure what to think of Sheik. Best keep him at arms length, for now. If she can.
]

Interesting. [She murmured to herself, resting her hands on the railing beside him once more. She understood the necessity of body guards back home in Hyrule; the kingdom was not without occasional strife and there were those that, like Ganondorf (though not nearly as powerful) who would attempt to take the throne for themselves.

The body guards, of course, never had anything to do. Zelda made sure she was fully capable of taking care of herself (in more ways than her father had insisted; she excelled in archery and swordsmanship), even going to the extent to seek out training in private from some of the more...less than desirable citizens of Hyrule.

Sometimes you needed to know how to fight dirty.
]

I will not stop you, if that is something that you desire. [Who was she to refuse him? She knew she could, but wouldn't.] I confess I would not mind seeing you on a more frequent basis. [He understands her. That is not something she ever encounters.]

[Irk. Sheik was less than thrilled to discuss any of Zelda's potential suitors. If they'd been in Hyrule, he would have pushed Kage into taking Zelda as his wife. After what that man did to his princess, it seemed the only logical course of action.

Zelda was back to thinking so little of it, though. At least she acted as though she was fine with things. He wasn't convinced, however. It was up to Jak to get that out of her, though. He'd left it in his capable hands.]

A young man who cares for her to a great extent, perhaps more than he chooses to openly admit. For quite some time, I had attempted to ward him from her. In doing so, however, it affected her own prosperity.

All people are the same. Even aboard the hostility of this ship, it is unfair to hold people to various standards. You are not excluded from that and I suppose that means I am not either.

[He taps his fingertips against the railing tentatively.] Sometimes what I desire is not so important. I don't intend to say anything to anyone about whatever you may or may not like.

Remember that you have your own feelings, your own thoughts. It's permissible to have them. Don't shut yourself off and think otherwise about yourself. I certainly don't.

That is fortunate for her, then. [Zelda was not going to push the subject if he did not wish to discuss it; if Zelda herself wished to confide in her, then she would. ]

I am inclined to agree with you; neither of are excluded from that sort of thing. [She agrees, but disagrees all the same. She cannot fathom having a suitor here, even if she wanted to. She was supposed to marry for Hyrule and Hyrule only, not for anything she might want.]

But I will say this:, to say that your desires are are not so important is a foolish thing to say. [Zelda's voice was rather flat.] Each persons desires, regardless of if they are voiced, are important. To each of us, what we want and the things we wish to have or become are sometimes all we have. To negate this and diminish our hopes and dreams and to call them 'unimportant' is to demean ourselves. [She cast her eyes upon him, her face hard. She's been kept from everything she's ever wanted, but it never stopped her from continuing to hope.] In the scheme of things, sometimes our own wishes seem...small and insignificant, but they are what make us who we are.

[She inhales deeply, staring out at the ocean again.]

I have...many thoughts and feelings. I have to have something to cling to in this place. [But he is right. She will not voice them. Not when she herself is still unsure of them.]

[He watches her silently, admiration staining those red eyes. He's never heard his own princess speak so earnestly. She doesn't even like admitting she has her own selfish desires and wants. Unlike her descendant, she constantly denies herself for the benefit of her people, or for others.

Their loyalty for Hyrule seems to mirror one another. Sheik has come to anticipate this, however, and he is less than surprised. What should he think, though? Perhaps Her Majesty should knock his princess around a few times and tell her exactly what she just told him.

His other half, recently, has been quite aware of what she wants and how to go about obtaining it, especially as it seems they will not be returning to Hyrule anytime soon, if ever, thanks to the fuzzy orange creature and his ridiculous ideas.]

You have no idea how much I appreciate hearing those words from you. Indeed, your wisdom radiates from you. This ship is quite a bit fortunate to have you aboard.

[What he means is that he is fortunate to have her aboard, but...]

Duty sometimes calls us to forfeit our wishes, but it does nothing for ourselves as people to let go of them. [Her words are quiet and thoughtful. Duty above all else, yes. It would never stop her from dreaming, however. She faces him directly, leaning against the railing.]

I apologize if I may come across as too direct. However, as one who has been kept away from such things her whole life...[She swallows.] I suppose it is something that I feel particularly strongly about.

[Sheik knows all about that. He's had to let go of many things for the sake of other people. He's had to go through a seven year battle with himself. Does he have an obligation to anything beyond him, however? Aside from the princess, of course. He doesn't know. What he does know, is that he wants his own freedom and as long as he's attached, he can't have that.

Some days he wonders how much he can force her back and take over. Then he reminds himself that such a thing is wrong.]

You should feel strongly about it. That is to be anticipated. If you didn't, I might be a little concerned about you. [Not that he isn't already. No. That'd be silly.]

[She gives him a faint smile, regarding him carefully. ]

You are far more than you appear to be. [This is a simple assessment. He is far more complicated than she had anticipated. It is part of what draws her to him.]

[Sheik likes to think of himself in the same fashion. He is far more than he appears to be. He doesn't like being thought of as the same as everyone else. He is something special, and damn it, he knows it.]

Give it a little time and perhaps you will come to discover entirely what that is. If you wish to, that is.

[And he was getting the impression that she did.]

...I would like that very much. [She can hear herself admitting it before she can stop herself; she is usually so good at masking what she is really thinking and feeling (necessary for a ruler involved in diplomatic relations), but the walls crumble around him. Disconcerting, that.]

Then it looks like we both have something to work toward.

[Her to put the puzzle pieces of him together. And him to work to make that smile return to those plush lips of hers. Given his fascination for her, Sheik wonders how he managed to get by without humiliating himself too much.

He feels like he could be far too foolish in front of her.]

And I look forward to it. [Her lips curved into a half smile before the expression vanished.

So many puzzle pieces aboard this ship. It had the capability to be very intimidating.

[Some things were better left not prodded. Sheik's taken a dive into her soul and for now, that's good enough for him. He straightens his posture and offers her a vague smile, more shown in his eyes than any uplifting of the lips.]

We will be seeing each other soon, I assure you. May you be blessed until that time.
